About the artist: Helene Ostrow

Artist's Statement:

In the creation of my art I constantly question myself. Questioning is the principal source of my creative energy. We live in a turbulent and revolutionary age of suffering and violence. And my art sometimes reflects this. I sculpt, paint, do etching, woodcuts and linocuts. I have also taught art which has enriched my creativity. My passion is working with stone, especially marble. My forms are strong and deliberately precise. They are directly related to my personal experience and a reflection at the same time of external experiences.

I am a Florida and New York based artist. I have studied at Queens College, the University of Wisconsin, and the Art Students League (New York). I have worked in Pietra Santa (Italy), at the Carving Studio in Rutland, Vermont, at Langrove with Steffi Friedman, at the Montoya Studio in Palm Beach and currently at the William Reed Studio in Boca Raton.

My sculpture has received first, second and honorable mention awards in exhibitions in Florida galleries and museums. I have also taught sculpture, clay and textile design in New York and Florida.
